The most popular living room colours for 2024

We all spend a lot of time in our living room. Whether we want to unwind at the end of a busy day at work, or cosy up on the couch to binge-watch the hottest TV series, it’s a place that we want to feel comfortable and relaxed in.

It’s no wonder that often the most common colours to see in living rooms are neutrals and earthy tones that aren’t too in your face.

At Madesign, we like to keep up to date with all of the latest interior trends, and that includes thinking about what colours are going to be the most popular this year. So, keep on reading to find out more about what colours will work best for your next renovation project.

2024s Biggest Colour Trends For Property Investors

Although working on a property project normally means making choices that will stand the test of time and appeal to a large audience, it’s also a good idea to take some inspiration from what’s trendy at the moment when designing your space:

Green

Green is undoubtedly going to be one of the biggest colour trends of the year, and it goes along with the larger movement towards sustainability – which is something that most other industries are also starting to think about.

Embracing a bit of nature into your properties is a good way to incorporate some hints of green and give a nice aura to a living room. Think of bold greens as a feature wall to add some visual intrigue, calming sage green accent pieces, and, of course, lots of plants dotted around to tie everything in.

Blue

Shades of blue, particularly the lighter shades that have those lovely serene and calming tones, are going to be making their way into living rooms across the country throughout 2024.

From soft baby blues to deep navy hues, these colours are absolutely timeless so they provide a safe choice in your next project – the shade also compliments a variety of design styles, which is always handy.

If you want to create a living that feels extra calming for your end tenants, blues are the perfect choice.

Grey

Grey is a colour choice that can often cause some disagreement between designers. Some people like the simplicity and minimalism that a grey colour palette can give to a living room, whereas some designers just see it as a cold and uninviting hue.

When done correctly, we think that it can be a beautiful shade to use in a living room. While lighter greys have been the most popular in recent years, we’re starting to see a switch towards darker, charcoal greys.

This is a much richer tone that doesn’t give the same sense of minimalism, but it does give a feeling of opulence and artistic flair to a living room. We like to pair this shade of grey with jewel tones like deep blues and purples to make living rooms feel extra glamorous.

White

Despite not being the most exciting colour out there, you can’t deny the popularity of using white in living rooms. It’s a popular choice for investors too as it gives you a chance to create a blank canvas for renters to imagine the design possibilities for themselves.

A white living room may not end up staying white if tenants have pets and young children, but it can still create a gorgeous space. If you are worried about whites not looking pristine, you can use a range of off-white shades and other neutrals to give a more lived-in vibe.

Just because you’re designing an all-white living room also doesn’t mean you have to make things look like a GPs office, you can add different textures such as painted wood, or add a little bit of colour by adding some prints to the wall.

Orange

Make a living room feel like a sunset by incorporating warm tones like orange, soft pinks, and fiery reds into a space. You may think that these colours can be a bit overwhelming but in fact, when used properly, they can create a relaxing yet energetic vibe in a living room.

These warm-toned hues can give a sense of warmth and optimism – which can go a long way when potential renters are viewing your property for the first time. If you want to go against the grain and create some vibrant and lively spaces, these shades are an excellent choice.

Pairing these colours with neutral furniture and accessories also allows them to shine without overwhelming the room if you don’t want things to look too bold.

Navy

One of the biggest colour trends of the year is black, and although this can work in some settings, we don’t think a rental property is an ideal place to start getting super creative in the living room. If you want to add the drama of black, without making things look too dark, using navy blue is a good middle ground. A dark navy blue is a striking shade to incorporate into a living room, but the blue tones make it look approachable and stylish.

Use navy blue as an accent wall right in front of a window where it can naturally catch the light, or just keep it simple and paint the doors navy for a pop of drama.

Check out what investors say.

“Raquel fully designed a refurb of a 2-bed flat. She also provided ongoing support and recommendations on various aspects of executing the design including dealing with the inevitable unexpected aspects of working with older/unloved properties. Raquel was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, responsive and pragmatic. Her work resulted in a final project delivery that exceeded my expectations. In addition, this was all achieved entirely remotely, without the need for Raquel to visit onsite. I am very grateful to have worked with Raquel and would not hesitate to recommend her highly plus she would be my first choice for any future projects.”
